Evening all, Dd is going to be one soon and I've no idea what to buy her for her birthday. Looking for suggestions as to something or a combination of things for her to play with/use which will last at least 6 months or longer - that your child loved. Budget around £100 max, but could maybe go higher by combining with relatives. Asked on here for 6 month present (xmas) and went with jumperoo ...best thing ever!! So please help me again oh wise ones!

Smart trike
Something for the garden like a swing set
Annual pass for a soft play or other kid entertainment near you like a zoo or farm park

mintich · 09/06/2018 19:57

I got a smartrike, she loves it!

MuddyForestWalks · 09/06/2018 19:57

Dd got this teepee for her 1st birthday.

She is almost 4 now and plays in it most days with her 1yo brother.

Things that were hits for my DD's first birthday - sand and water table (minus the sand until she's a bit older), play tent, paddling pool, walker, fisher price chair.

Spidermansthong · 09/06/2018 20:02

The toys which have been long lasting with my dd were

Tomy eggs
A simple ball
Wooden peg puzzles
Little tykes rocking horse (can also go in the garden)

Singlenotsingle · 09/06/2018 20:03

Little tykes red car, about £50. A little bit old for her atm but there's a platform in there for tinies' feet so you just push.

Namechangemum100 · 09/06/2018 20:04

I would say smart trike as well, my dd adores hers, the folding one is ideal as we put it in the car and use it far more than the pram.

She also loves her doll, we have lots of accessories like a pram, cot, baby carrier etc which keeps her entertained for a long time. She does have a new baby brother though which might be why she is so fond of it.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/06/2018 20:06

Some sort of tent is a great idea. Or a Wendy House if they're still called that?

Mine loved their brick trolley at that age. They like playing with the bricks, smashing over towers and pushing the trolley about when they started walking, sometimes taking teddies for a walk in it or the cat. Confused

I bought one of mine a paddling pool and filled it with plastic balls for a first birthday, if you have room. Hours of fun playing with the box in came in too Grin

Smart trike, DD loves hers. We also got her a kid size armchair from dunelm mill, she loves sitting in it and she’s over 2 years old now

Things that have stood the test of time with DD
The vtech rock n ride horse and also the Tomy eggs as pp mentioned. She's still obsessed with a cheap beach ball that was about £2 on eBay. Stacking toys are still popular too.
We did get DD a teddy bear made with her newborn sleepsuits for her first birthday, not really a toy as such but hopefully something to be treasured as she gets older

Beetlebum1981 · 09/06/2018 20:36

Totally planning on getting DS a smart trike for his birthday!

He's a teeny bit younger than your DD, but I made him a beanbag a few weeks ago and he's completely in love with throwing himself on it.

Does she like water? You can get some fantastic bath stuff these days, slime and all sorts of toys.
