Reusable nappies

With two in nappies I'm starting to consider using reusables but don't know where to start.

Anyone use them? How many would I need to buy? Are they easy to wash? Are they worth the extra effort?!

Thanks

They are brilliant

Try this website for info and her questionnaire is a really good at pinpointing which ones are best for you www.thenappylady.co.uk

Basically you need

a absorbent nappy
a waterproof layer (some have these combined all-in-ones)
Liner either reusable or disposable
Bucket/bag to store dirty ones (bag for going out too)
Reusable wipes are great too

How many depends on what type/material and how often you want to wash.

Bamboo take longer to dry but are more absorbent.

2 part nappies (where you has a waterproof wrap separate) come in different sizes so you might need different sizes for each child. I use little lamb and ds was in size one until 9 months and will be in size 2 until he potty trains (unless he does that very late)

Washing, you bung them in a machine put on a wash to make them very wet no powder, I stop after 10 minutes, and then a long cycle wash that has plenty of water so no eco cycles.

I think they're brill, only a few leaks in 18 months and only when I've not put the wrap on quite right. I bought second hand and have saved a fortune already and that's before my second is even born.

Thanks @Eeeeek2 that's really helpful info, I just wonder if I can be bothered to do more washing but I really don't like the amount of disposables that we get through

I wash every 2/3 days so it's 2/3 washes more a week only you can decide if that would be ok for you. Do you wash clothes/ bedding because of nappy leaks?

Beansprout30 · 08/06/2018 20:45

To be honest I don't get that many leaks maybe I'm lucky! They do look more comfortable and obviously much more environmentally friendly
