Does your kid know where babies come from?

My kid read some books on the whole thing when he was 3 so I'll never have to that talk with him. But I just wondered as some people seem to have a thing about it. Does your kid know where babies come from?

Yes, we were the same. They had access to age appropriate books, so always knew and we discussed things in age appropriate ways and were very open and honest. I didn’t want them to pick up false information in the playground and wanted to protect and empower them.

Now they do, apprently they came from spurms and that they were once spurms they learned it in primary school and were very open and loud discussing what they learned in school that day in the playground in front of other mothers.
I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me

My dd asked at 2.5 when I was pregnant. I explained about eggs and the womb and told her how the baby will come out. She's now 4 and I think the subject of sperm will come up soon as she's talking about how we have the same hair colour because she came from my egg. She has her father's eyes so I'm preparing my answer on that one carefully.

Just asked DS and he says they all came from my tummy. He’s an only so that’s a bit of an exaggeration 😂.

We had this talk when he asked about his tummy button a while ago.

Yes of course. Told them at preschool age as they asked. It's just basic biology to them.

Kids are 3 and 4, they know daddy gives mummy a sperm from his penis and it swims to the egg inside mummy and grows into a baby. They häve seen cows mating but haven't made the connection to people. When they play mummy, daddy, baby - daddy hands the sperm to mummy who puts it up her jumper, followed by a doll.

Yeah mine do

ChanklyBore · 07/06/2018 16:48

Don’t expect to never have that talk again. They forget things that happen when they were three. After years of explaining all kinds of things with curious kids of an age to be in the loo cubicle with me I thought, great, job done. No, they forgot the lot. You have to keep doing it, and so few opportunities to bring things up when you’re in the private-body stage.

But yeah, they know. I gave one of them a live demonstration once, hard to forget I suspect.

They know where the baby comes from. My 6 year old has never shown any interest in knowing how it got there, so I was blindsided the other week when the 4 year old asked!

MonumentVal · 07/06/2018 16:59

5yo finally asked how seeds and egg get together. I mentioned how an adult's penis could fit in an adult vagina and he was convinced I was joking. Will see if Y4 PHSE covers it...

Both mine knew the basics pre- school, though it's never one conversation is it? It's too much to understand all at once, they forget bits, and at every age they need it re-explained in the way that suits their stage of development. The really important bit is that they learn from the youngest age that there is nothing shameful or funny or forbidden about the topic, and that questions will always be welcomed.

hungryhippie · 07/06/2018 17:10

Mine is 3 and has seen babies being born so knows how they come out but hasn't yet asked how they get in! I'm going to tell him the truth when he asks, age appropriate of course.

I read this and laughed a bit that you think a 3 year old is capable of teaching himself sex Ed.

Then i looked at your username....
