Activities for the summer for over 12's

My DC1 is now in year 7, age 12. I have another younger child. Is it me or does there seem to be a lack of things for them to do once they reach secondary age? I can keep my youngest amused during the summer holidays in some clubs and other activities and playdates. However, for the eldest it seems to have dried up.

I have found one weeks worth of club for him to do (at £200!!!) but other than that I am struggling. He has a couple of friends he can hang out with and he has hobbies, but these happen at night.

I don't want him playing on his phone for the 8 weeks he has off. We have a few trips planned.

What do you do with your 12 year+ DC over the holidays?
