best reusable nappy for use with newborn? Priorities- not leaky and cute factor!!

Have used washable nappies before (fuzzi bunz) but they used to leak badly after only half an hour which is really not practical. Sadly returned to disposables!

Next baby is due in August and I'd love to use reusables from about 2 weeks onwards. Can anyone recommend the best ones for reliability and cute factor (shallow of me but might as well admit it)!? Have thought about tots bots and motherease...

Ohh swaddlebees organic velour, DS2's first nappy was one of these, also like sandy's extra small (llook really cute on a LO) and Tots Bots rainbow bots

nappyzone · 20/05/2007 16:56

awwwwwwwwwww snuggly new babies - pockets!!!!!

purpleturtle · 20/05/2007 16:58

Ds2 went into bumbles with motherease wraps at about 2 weeks. Never had a problem (that I can recall, 8 months on, anyway)

Hard to beat Tots - we used the classics in white on DS, but have found a couple of 2nd hand Bamboozles for the new baby. Soooooooo cute!

snugglebumnappies · 20/05/2007 17:44

nappyzone, get over the pockets! it's got to be a two part system on a teeny weeny baby

Bouquetsofdynomite · 20/05/2007 17:48

Newborn terry squares and nippas! Cute and compact with classic elegance , quickdrying and cheap too. See thenappylady website for folds that will hold in runny poo beautifully.

nappyzone · 20/05/2007 18:41

awwwwwwww yeah snugglebum i know - the weeble look looks fab on newborns lol!

Flamesparrow · 20/05/2007 20:12

Swaddlebees organic velour newborn - I defy anyone to not have a melty heart when they see one!!

Followed by bambineos later on for fluffy goodness.

MissGolightly · 20/05/2007 20:14

I liked totsbots bamboozles. Don't get the totsbots wraps though, they leak IME. I used motherease wraps.

We´ve been using real nappies on our 3 week old ds since he was 2 days old. I would recommend swaddlebees´organic velour for ultimate cuteness, but they are expensive, bimbles qd are cheaper and really do the job, also very cute and the bambineo size 1s are also nice and slim on a little baby. I have a size 1 bamboozle and small Sandy´s but they drown him at the moment, and he´s about 9lbs now..

small rikki wrap with all the nappies, have tried airflow but they´re quite bulky, think they´ll be better when he´s bigger. Could get xs rikki if you wanted a really slim fit but i´ve found the sm to be just fine.

Ooh, thanks for all the replies. I'm excited already-keep the opinions coming . Will definitely avoid tots bots wraps then.

OK, I'm going to do some research tonight as I have never heard of swaddlebees or rikki wraps. I will be back later tonight or tomorrow with more questions! Thanks again

it must be a shape thing with tots wraps as i have no probs on my chunky boy - we dont use them alot i have to say but when my stash is running low out it comes, its gettign a bit small now so in its last outings!

MissGolightly · 21/05/2007 11:46

Rikki is the same as motherease - they are the ones I use. They are sort of shaped to fit round the nappy and are totally waterproof.

I think possibly tots have changed their wrap shape recently as I have seen some that look more "tailored", so possibly the new kind are better.

Bouquetsofdynomite · 21/05/2007 14:02

I can't praise Riikis highly enough, esp for a nappy addict - they work with shaped nappies and padfolded ones too. I've used them on 2 babies and they never leak (unless someone else has put them on). Motherease Airflow/Air Rika are ok if you don't have any prefolds.

Flamesparrow · 21/05/2007 17:23

Yes, tots have added leg gussets, but some people are still mentioning leaks. For a 100% reliable wrap I still lean towards motherease.

Bagpuss30 · 21/05/2007 17:29

Nature Babies wraps are pretty good too. I have one as a back up when all the motherease are in the wash. I have tried the classic in both popper and aplix and think that aplix are better for fit. I also have a multiwrap and was pleased initially although ds2 went and spoilt it by losing his chubby baby tummy and now it is too big around the waist!

To answer the OP though, I would perhaps go with some bamboo terries nippa'd and some very very cute wraps (although Swaddlebees are lovely...)

soph28 · 21/05/2007 17:29

tots bots, rainbow, bamboozles amd fluffle are all great and very cute. I use motherease wraps too. I do use the tots fleece wraps for night though!

never had a leak!
