How much sleep does your pre-schooler need?

My son has not long turned for and he typically only has 9-10 hours sleep a night.

We out him to bed at 7pm and sometimes he will fall asleep very quickly not on other nights he will still be awake an hour later and just messing about in his room.

He’s up at 5am each morning.

Surely this isn’t enough sleep?

And how do we encourage him to go to sleep when we put him to bed?

Hello,

Sorry I am going to be no help whatsoever but my 4 year old is exactly the same. Until recently he has gone to bed wonderfully at around 7:30, but always ALWAYS wakes up at 5:30/6:00.

I have tried putting him to bed later (8:00/9:00) for a couple of weeks but it makes no difference whatsoever.

Just recently he has started refusing to go to sleep at his usual time, (tonight for example am writing this sat outside his room periodically putting him back in bed!) wont get to sleep until 10:00 sometimes and STILL is awake by 6:00am without fail.

It's hard work isn't it. I've waited 4 years for him to grow out of it but no sign yet...
