Holding in wee/poo whilst potty training

DD2 has been telling us before she needs a wee/poo and then again once she's done it for a couple of months. When she tells us we have been sitting her on the potty if possible (but not if we're out somewhere and it's not convenient). Almost every time she will happily sit, sing songs, read books etc but nothing is deposited. Within a few minutes of her nappy going back on she'll do her wee/poo.

Nursery have asked if we can give proper training a go as they feel she is capable (I don't disagree). With the bank holiday weekend she'll be at home for 6 days giving us a good stretch to give it a shot.
Half a day in and we have gone through 4 pairs of knickers with no successes. We have no issue getting her to sit (we've started with every 15 minutes and she sits for a couple of minutes) but she keeps holding it until we've got her knickers back on.

Any suggestions before we write it off for another month or two? We have already been rewarding a success (or the rare occassion it's happened!) with a choc button and lots of praise.

I would leave it a few months and try again. She needs to be ready emotionally as well as physically.

Read Oh Crap It's Potty Training. It has worked for everyone I know.

Second the oh crap suggestion. Rather than sitting them on the potty/toilet every half hour you wait until they are peeing, then quickly take them there. They need to make the connection between weeing and the potty. It took DS 3 days to crack it and he’s been great since.

Don't use knickers straight away, just have her go commando and nothing on her bottom half for first few days. And second reading oh crap book.

Thanks all!
I have ordered the book. We left her naked on the bottom half today with just a pull up for nap time. She has spent most of her day telling us she wants a wee, sitting, then nothing (except a number of farts on occassion!). Soooo many accidents... Thankfully in the garden so minimal clean up. As mentioned above we have run her straight to the potty at the first dribble of an accident. She certainly seems to get that wee/poo is supposed to go in there and definitely knows when she needs to go, she just doesn't appear to want to deposit.

Such a different experience to DD1. She decided at 21mo she wanted knickers/to use a potty and, despite a few regressions for various reasons, was very determined to get it right.

Glad you've ordered it OP. It totally transformed my idea of potty training and made perfect sense. Let us know how you get on xc
