Has anyone got one of these? Are they any use and would they work with washable wipes soaked in my home-made solution?

Please please don't - its an appalling waste of money.

If you are that concerned, chuck the wipes box in the airing cupboard or sit it on the radiator. If heating's not on then wipes will be room temp anyway and fine.

I used to stick the wipe down my cleavage while undressing him, warm it up that way, then wipe DS - much easier and a clean cleav to boot!

Can you not just use warm water from the tap?

macmama73 · 18/05/2007 22:42

lol, nikki!

Nikki76 · 18/05/2007 22:44

Don't do it any more though - he's nearly a year so wipes at room temperature are fine...was just in early days when he was all new and I was very very conscientious....! PFB syndrome to boot!

!!!!

Flamesparrow · 18/05/2007 22:53

I always feel very bad... never did the PFB thing

Nikki76 · 18/05/2007 22:54

Its better to be more chilled out - I had bad PND cos I was so hard on myself...

Had a clean cleav though...

octo · 18/05/2007 22:55

Gawd - we have those convos now!

dh: is he too hot?
me: no - he's fine
dh: he's too hot
me:no - really he's fine
dh: should we open the window
me:no he's fine
dh: I'm going to open the window
me: fine whatever (((puts earplugs in and goes back to sleep ))

Nikki76 · 18/05/2007 22:56

Octo - totally remember that! We had that scorching summer and I was terrified DS would over heat but at same time was panicked about bedroom window being left open and strangers climbing in (even though he was in room with us!) so made DH lock window into place and have a fan on instead....

Will be much more chilled if have second one.....

Twinklemegan · 18/05/2007 23:00

Oh not this one again! Use cotton wool and warm water. If you must use wipes your LO will be fine with cold ones. Or make your solution warm.

danceswithbaby · 19/05/2007 06:53

Hmmm, thanks! It was just a thought anyway. I use washable wipes at the moment and warm tap water.

DD's had a tummy upset and I've been making up this really nice solution. It seemed a shame chucking it down the sink at each change or using it cold. Poor thing's needed changing in the night once or twice and if there was nice warm solution with wipes in it ready to go, I thought it might minimise waking her. So I've been trying to think up a way to keep it warm.

Anyway, had a brainwave last night. I made up the solution with a few wipes soaking and stuffed the container in the seed propagator. It was toasty this morning

I fill a thermos with warm to hot water and tip some of this into a plastic dish. I then dip the cotton wool or wipes into the water.

Cleaning bums is a lot easier IMO with warm water

The water in the flask stays warm for quite a few nappy changes and I just empty the dish each change.

nearlythere · 19/05/2007 10:14

ooh i have a wipes warmer- only because it had damaged packaging and no-one wanted to buy it so i took it home.

It has been sitting on the changing table ever sinec not once been plugged in as dh was concerned!

they really are an unnescessary extravagance!

danceswithbaby · 19/05/2007 13:57

Ah, good thinking Flower, I hadn't thought of that

I've got a load of wipes pre-soaked in solution, in a plastic box with a lid on. It's on a heated propagating mat on the changing table. It's very convenient (and warm!) but a flask would take up less space and electricity

It's not that I mind running to the bathroom to get water each time, but with an arm-full of sleepy baby baby and a nasty nappy, it would be nice not to have to! I'd forgotten all about night-time nappy changes... hopefully dd is on the mend now.

Definitely won't be wasting money on wipes warmer, thanks! Probably wouldn't work with washables anyway.
