How does your 5 year old behave?

Hi,

My 5 year old's behaviour has gone from being quite pleasant to being rude, stubborn and quite nasty towards us since she started school. She seems happy with her school and has made friends, but her behaviour is just getting worse. Is this normal?

No idea if it’s normal but I have one of those!

She sounds like my 5 year old. I put it down to a mixture of tiredness and being told what to do all day at school. DD has always been convinced that she is the ruler of the world and therefore tries to re-establish her place in charge at home in the evening. This does not go down well with her older sister...

Sorry, not very helpful. My 5 year olds behaviour has gotten worse as the school term has gone on, we are all looking forward to a break next week. He's started hitting, talking back and lying purposely. Infuriating but he is also very very tired by the end of the school day which doesn't help.

Yes, I have one of those as well. 5 yr old dd is in year 1 and displays much of the same behaviours you and the others have described. I think its not unusual at their age because they are tired from the school day but also because so much is expected of them with regards to behaviour. It's like they need to have a little blow out when they get home!

I'm relieved to hear its not only mine. Do they change when they turn 6? I ask very hopefully?

Yes have one here too! the teething, non-sleeping 7 month old is no bother at all compared! Fingers crossed this phase passes quickly (been 9 months!)
