Going on holiday...will it mess everything up!

We have a holiday in Spain coming up in a few weeks and my baby will be 14 weeks old. It was booked when he was just less than a month old, however for the last 2 weeks he’s been sleeping through 8pm until 4/5am feed then back off til 7/8am. I feel incredibly lucky (especially as my first was up all night every night until he was 4 months old). We have a lovely bedtime routine which I think helps (daytime totally different story) but I’m so worried that a holiday is going to totally mess him up when we get back especially with early morning flights etc. Has anyone taken a baby abroad this young and did it affect anything when you got back?

Yes, it messed it up hugely for me. My anxiety skyrocketed and it was a crap holiday for everyone! I tried to keep dd on the old schedule, but that meant weird times for outings and meals for me. The next 3 holidays I booked were in resorts where everything was nearby, and there was food and activities available all day long. No sightseeing and not much local culture, which is normally what I like.

That said, you’re going to get lots of folk on here who had no such problems. If I think of some of my friends, routine is never going to be an option for them and their ‘go with the flow’ baby strategy works well for them.

Hopefully you get some other tips and tricks. I think you’re very brave!

Routine changes so much at that age. Yes the holiday may change things but your baby’s sleep pattern will be constantly changing anyway.
