IKEA cots and cotbeds

I’m a little bit confused.

I’ve read that IKEA cots are supposed to be good due to the fact you can take the side off and put them against your bed. Ideally we’d like to buy a cot bed (actually two as I’m having twins) However I’ve looked on the IKEA site and none of the ones they have for sale are described as cot beds.

Does anybody out there know which/if any actually are cot beds? Help would be much appreciated please

A cot is 60x120cm whereas a cotbed is 70x140cm. Ikea doesn't discriminate between the two, because they aren't a UK company so they don't have the UK standards.

TBH though any cotbed will also convert, it doesn't need to be an ikea one :) The good thing about ikea is the fact they stand up with one side removed. Any cotbed will also do this as they are designed to convert into a toddler bed later.

Any suggestions for other good cot beds much appreciated. We’ve got a £180 per cot budget limit

Many of their cots can have the side taken off to convert to like a day bed, but they are still cot sized. So same function as a cot bed (though not quite the same look), but the mattress and bedding will be the size of a cot and not the larger cot bed.

If you want a cot to use bedside I would recommend the Ikea ones if you have the space. We’ve used ours for two babies now and it was perfect. But I think they will eventually be too cramped for a toddler bed. But the price is great and I would just switch to a single bed when you’re ready.

I don't know about that any more, mindutopia - it was defo the case when I bought DS's cot but now (I think) all of their main lines are standardised to cotbed size, and it's only the cheaper one you can get smaller now. Anyway you can look at the sizes on their website, because I'm not 100% sure.

Ikea cots are standard size. I have the cot with a cot mattress from mothercare. I have the side down to use as a cot bed now. We had a drop side cot bed from mothercare before and there wasn’t a side bar included when converted to bed to stop the mattress sliding off.

We've used the SUNDVIK for both DC and it has stood the test of time well, side can be taken off very easily.

We've had an Ikea cot bed through two kids. Very good quality. One side is replaced by a wooden bar to make it a bed. DD2 is currently 2.5 and it's plenty big enough. DD1 was ready for a normal adult bed when she grew out of it.

The Stuva one is definitely a cotbed.
Just had a look at the website and the images aren’t great and doesn’t show the combinations or drawers for some reason, but if you search google images there’s plenty.

Worth noting that this size change has happened in the last year or so. So if you bought before that, your reference might not be current. I've just checked the UK website and yep, they are all 70x140 which is cotbed size. I know they used to be cot sized though because DS's was.

Definitely recommend ikea, we got 2 for our twins, very sturdy and great value, we still have the side up but plenty of growing room still and twins are nearly 2
