Cutting toddler nails

How???

I used to just do it while dd was distracted watching tv. But recently it’s become impossible, with dd completely refusing. She turns into a raging wriggly slippery eel like thing and completely impossible to hold onto and keep her hands or feet still enough to cut them.

Any good tricks?

I have a deal with DS (2) I do one of his hands and then he pretends to do one of mine under strict guidance - I haven’t lost a finger yet

When they are asleep, it's the only way. My DD aged 4 states the nail fairy came in the night to do it!

No way would I risk doing it when she’s asleep! She would wake up for sure. Also, surely too dark to see what I was doing properly

I’ve tried offering her to do mine, but she’s just not interested.

She’s 2.5.

My little boy who’s 3 HATES having his nails cut and I dread doing it. Then weirdly yesterday I asked him if he wanted to cut my nails, he said yes, so I let him clip a couple on the understanding I could do his afterwards. Then he let me, no fuss! It may be a one off though, may resort back to 2 of us wrestling him next time 😂

Sorry crossed post just seen she isn’t interested in cutting yours. Maybe chocolate button bribes then? 😉

I've tried EVERYTHING ! My 4 yr old screams the house down but DH and I have to hold him down and just do it between us because his toenails kind of grow and curl over and grow into his skin if I let them grow then it would be a Dr job as hey would get sore and infected. I view it as a nessecary evil like teeth brushing !

I was cutting and painting my toenails yesterday morning and DD (2) came over all interested so managed to cut hers with the promise of purple polish on her toes afterwards! She has the same curling over nails problem; gets it from her dad!

I used to do my daughter's when she had fallen asleep in her pushchair - often while I was in the supermarket. I'd hear her snoring, whip off the socks and get the clippers out. From age 3 onwards it's basically a two person job. One to hold down, one to clip. She would scream the house down. Now age 10 she lets them get to Guiness World Record lengths before I have to pay a £1 to do it. She still screams!!!

Cut it a bit and let them help to pull it off. In one go - takes practice x

Not ideal but easier than trying to cut them.
He will let dad file them but not me 🤔

Oh god, same here. Absolute melt down at suggestion of doing his toes. We got a little way by offering 2p toe (after he started a little piggy bank) but that's worn off again now. Even then we had to negotiate hard on how many we could do a day.

Can't use clippers, only my fingers or teeth. The get so long and curl over. I don't know the solution!

Glad I’m not the only one. I just have to wait till dh is home and we pin her down while she howls and rages.

I wish it was easier to keep them neat and short though. The state of them after a few weeks of not being cut and a weekend of grubbing around in the muddy garden was pretty disgusting
