Sleepovers

Any parents not allow sleepovers (don't host them, don't allow your kids to go on them), and if not may I ask your reasons why?

I let my 6 year old go on her first sleepover and she had a blast! I have not hosted and do not want to host one in case the child gets sick at night or upset. Otherwise, I would be happy to host, as I don't mind entertaining the kids or playing with them or thinking of ideas for them (although I think they are fine to entertain themselves!).

I'll happily host but don't like mine staying over elsewhere.

I was fussy about play dates though and wanted to know the adults, if any pets/ponds etc.

DD1 (7) went to her first sleepover a couple of months ago. She nearly had to come home because she had a tummy ache from stuffing her face with too much junk food, they stayed up until 2am and apparently watched a 12-rated movie ... so it’s fair to say I wasn’t overly impressed.

I’ve refused to host one for her birthday as I don’t want the responsibility and frankly don’t want to have to deal with a bunch of kids all night long! She can have one with just one or two friends when she’s a little older.

I don't host. Honestly I don't think I'd cope with more than one. I don't like responsibility at the best of times

My daughter is 7, and from when she was a baby she has been with me only. I always said that I would never let her go to sleep overs and that I would be the one hosting them. But she recently moved schools and before leaving got invited to a birthday sleep over. She so badly wanted to go and as hard as it was I let her. She had an absolutely amazing time and has had a few more since. It's done wonders for her confidence and independence. I think sometimes as parents we need to do realise that actually they need to experience these things in order to grow into healthy independent adults.

Dc don’t like staying away.

DD(11) has sleepovers here all the damn time. My house is always full of kids who aren't mine. She enjoys it. They all do. She'll have up to 6 girls staying over at once sometimes.

My only issue is that it's almost never reciprocated. So many parents are quite happy to have their kid stay out all weekend long or go for tea at someone else's house all the time but won't let any children even over their threshold.
DD is made to wait outside when one child goes in for dinner. It's a shame when it's always so one sided. No one HAS to host their DCs friends but it's a bit much expecting someone else to every weekend.

Think our dd was about 18 months old for her first sleepover we went away she stayed with friends with a similar aged child. And then we returned the favour.

No idea why parents wouldn’t let their kids go on sleepovers great for building independence and getting them ready for school trips and brownie / cub camps.

My now 17 y/o DD currently on a sleepover.

We have even had them in tents and in the playhouse in years gone by.

It's an important part of growing up and cementing friendships IMO. My girls had loads of sleepovers when they were younger, still do occasionally (late teens). You get to know their friends better, it's lovely. There do have to be some rules though, they can't be allowed to run completely feral .

Those that say their house is too small - can't you just chuck some pillows and duvets on the lounge floor? Doesn't have to be a bedroom!

As we are terrible parents we used to quite often either have kids left or leave ours at various friends after parties. Kids up stairs watching a film or playing. They’d all fall asleep and we’d collect them the next day. Or they’d be collected from ours

Mine have sleepovers all the time. Sometimes there's not even any communication with the parents 😂 DD will just text me, appear what whatever friend it is to collect her stuff, then reappear in the morning. She is 10. We are quite a relaxed bunch really but it's a small community and everyone is like this.

DD had one sleepover out of necessity when she was 3, it was my EDD, but DS2 then arrived 13 days late! She stayed up until 10.45pm, she isn't used to having DVDs in bed!

I'm not a fan. DD has them occasionally and we reciprocate. There's only a couple of friends she's interested in having sleepovers with. I don't like more than 1 friend here unless it's a special occasion like a birthday.
DD likes time to herself so isn't keen on having friends over that much. She's not that gregarious. I guess I'm not either!

BigSandyBalls well yes we could do that but where would the rest of us go for the evening? We don’t have TVs upstairs, the kitchen is tiny so no table and chairs in there, plus the living room is small anyway so no room on the floor for more than one child to lie unless we moved all the furniture out as well.

And we don’t have a tent before anyone suggests that

Piggery you could just have one friend sleepover on your child's floor. We have a big house but that's what we do. I'm not having mass sleepovers.

We have a two bedroom small house but have had three kids on a blow up mattress in the living room plus one on the sofa 😂

We don’t have TV’s upstairs either so the kids play in the bedroom or in the garden, then watch a film in the living room. The kids bedroom is small so it’s usually carnage 🙈 I either stay in the kitchen or go upstairs to read/tidy/waste time on FB when they’re settling down for the night. I don’t mind being shoved out of my living room every once in a while :)

My DD and her friend often end up sharing her bed.
