Grumpy 8 yo

Does anyone have any words of wisdom please?

8yo DS is very grumpy, all the time. He dislikes everything that isn't his first choice, whether it's food or activity. This morning he's crying that he doesn't want to come downstairs as he doesn't like his brother. He loves screen time (gaming and YouTube) but we impose limits so he's not constantly on a screen. He's not sporty but we make sure he gets outdoor exercise. We battle to ensure he has a balanced diet with adequate fruit and veg, though I still feel he has too much sugar.

He dislikes school though he is pretty academic. He assures me his friendship group is fine though I know there is a fair amount of teasing amongst them: they're 8 yo boys though so that seems normal? School tells me he's settled and well-behaved, though he's one of the quieter ones (which surprised me).

He is pretty emotionally intelligent and we try to discuss how he's feeling whenever he needs to. He is a dear little boy and can be very kind, loving and helpful when the mood takes him.

I just don't know what else to do - or do I just have to accept that he might not be a naturally positive person?
