AIBU to think holes in my child’s PJ’s are okay

So I have two children ages 4 and 2-both boys. Obviously the second child lives in the hand-me-downs. We spent a lot on reasonably expensive/good quality clothing for my first child. Being boys the clothes can sometimes be rugged and torn on the knee. Is it okay to allow my youngest to wear torn PJ’s stained (but clean) jumpers? Why do I feel so guilty, shouldn’t I do this. I’m interested on hearing from parents on what they do with torn clothes??

Kids notice these things. My son has loads of clothes, but I sent him to school once with trousers that had a small hole. I didn't realise until he had them on and I was not bothered to take them off. Anyways, then I forgot and another time put them on and he saw the hole and insisted he did not want to wear them because there was a hole. I suspect maybe someone pointed it out and he felt embarrassed. He was only 3 at the time. I didn't think he would notice, but children do.

One really sad thing I heard was from one of my nephews. He has 2 older brothers. For his birthday he asked for some socks as he said he had never had any nice new socks of his own. He's 4.

All of my family have mostly second hand clothing and a few new items. Stains are okay for at home play but I would mostly throw out really damaged stuff.

I would never buy expensive new clothes for DC1and leave DC2 with only damaged hand me downs.

Does he also get his own new stuff occasionally?
