Starting to worry DD is lactose intolerant

This might sound silly but I’m starting to wonder if my five month old is lactose intolerant. She is mixed fed on breast and bottle but she brings up an awful lot of milk. My DP thinks it’s cause she guzzles her milk and we have started giving her smaller feeds but i’m not so sure. When she goes to poo they always smell of milk too. Her weight is fine, just a bit under what she should be. I’m probably just being paranoid but she brings up so much milk.

Does she look like she’s having stomach aches? Is her poo like diarrhoea?

Pebbles4886 · 14/05/2018 08:49

She doesn’t have diarrhoea. She does get very upset sometimes and screams at the top of her lungs. We were putting down to teething

Lactose intolerance is actually very rare since all milk contains lactose (BF or FF)

She'd be having a lot more problems I think if she were CMPA with nappies etc

And if she's guzzling, that's likely to mean swallowed air and milk following it when tat comes back up

Okay thanks. Been thinking whilst I was shopping that maybe I should try her with anti-colic bottles.

How much/ often are you winding her?

Pebbles4886 · 14/05/2018 21:23

We wind her after every feed. She’ll bring up milk then and will bring up more in between feeds. Sometimes it’s milk and other times it’s clear with bits of milk in it.

Some babies are what's known as happy spitters. They just regurgitate a lot but to no ill effect. If she is following her centile or thereabouts and isn't very unhappy it is probably just that. If she has been BF till mow and is having more bottles she may just be glugging down more than she needs.
CMPI is usually accompanied (in my experience) by a very cross, uncomfortable baby who possibly also has rashes and allergic shiners. And also ether constipaion or diarrhea down the other end.

Pebbles4886 · 14/05/2018 22:26

I think I am just being paranoid as other than one little dip, she’s been following her centile perfectly. We have just increased her bottles, so that might be why.

Both my kids were happy spitters. DD is 7 months now and has mostly grown out of it in the last month or so, but previously she would just spit up all the time. Her weight is fine and apparently some babies just spit up a lot. My DS was the same too

Maybe try winding mid feed as well?

Pebbles4886 · 15/05/2018 23:00

Thanks everyone for help and advice. Feel much better.
