Walking home from school alone

babycham75 · 13/05/2018 16:23

DD is 10, school is a five minute walk away. She's in year 5.
Desperately wants to walk home on her own.
Is she too young or should I let her?

Loads of yr5 kids do here including mine when he was that age. Small village though and no roads to cross. 10min walk. I suppose it depends on the area and the child.

DD 10 walks the 30 minute trip home.

She would walk down to the end of the road, use the lollipop lady to cross, and walk down the other side of the road to home.

My Y5 daughter has been doing similar since the last term of Y4. One road to cross and a 5min walk. Usually when I’ve already picked her siblings up and she’s coming home at 4pm after a club and I can't be bothered to go out again

Mine started walking the short walk home alone in Y5.
