Boy vs girl new born sleeping etc

Is it a myth that boys are more difficult as newborns ie with sleeping etc? I have a girl, she was a great sleeper from day 1 pretty much. Someone told me that it'll be a different story if I have a boy. Is she talking bollocks?

I disagree. I have 2 boys- both good sleepers as far as newborns go. Have had ups and downs but still good on the whole- now aged 3 and 1

I had a DS, 4 weeks ago - my mum has told me the same 😂 at the moment DS seems to be proving her right

I have a boy. Perfect sleeper pretty much from the start. I have a niece who was an awful sleeper! I don't think gender has anything to do with it.

I should add that they are very energetic so now pose perhaps different challenges but girls come with their own set of challenges too I believe! I tend not to believe most gender myths. Each child marches to the beat of his or her own drum!

I don't think gender has anything to do with it.

Newborns don’t have gender. They have biology, or sex.

Pebblespony · 12/05/2018 18:35

I think in this context we can take the words gender and sex to be interchangeable for convenience and thrash out the correctness of it somewhere else.

Erm, no. Just no.

Rubyslippers7780 · 12/05/2018 18:37

I have 2 boys. One slept the other still does not. Nothing to do with what sex they are, all babies are different.

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/05/2018 18:39

I’m with Titty

Also, all babies are individuals.

bingo!

SoupDragon · 12/05/2018 18:40

Anyway, My worst sleeper was a girl. Best was a boy.

icklekid · 12/05/2018 18:41

I've never heard of newborn girls or boys sleeping better or worse and know non sleepers of both!

mindutopia · 12/05/2018 18:46

All babies are different. My first is a girl and was probably by most people’s standards not a good sleeper (though I just thought she was pretty normal for a baby). She wouldn’t sleep anywhere but on my husband or I for the first 6 weeks ( we did nights in shifts) and didn’t sleep through really until she was 3.5. She was ff from 10 weeks.

My son is 3 months and is much more relaxed. Since 6 weeks, he’s woken usually once at night or slept through. Most nights he sleeps at least 9-3, sometimes til 5:30/6am. He’s ebf and never had a bottle. It’s just his personality. We’ve taken a very attachment parenting approach with both of them and not done anything different.

Seems like the theory is blown out of the water so from the examples here.

Never heard this but sounds like nonsense to me. DS is a far better sleeper than his sister!

arbrighton · 12/05/2018 21:00

I was crap

For years

Between my sister and I, my mum didn't get a night's sleep for 5 years.

Oh, and stopped day naps at 10 mo too

My DS is bettr than I was but not great

It's really enough evidence to say either way, even if it was actually a theory rather than conjecture
