Reflux? Intolerance? Experiences please!

I’m looking for help as I’ve been to the GP and they’ve said my 4 week old baby has reflux and bronchiolitis, but I was just given a print out of things to try.

I’ve tried these things and nothing seems to be relieving her symptoms. I know meds are a last resort but before I go back to the doctors please could you let me know your experiences/ symptoms and how long did it take to diagnose?

My LO is FF and has

  • swollen very gassy tummy (smelly farts all the time!)
  • sick after feeds
  • gasps and chokes on milk even though we give breaks and burp time
  • arches back and twists, throws head
  • can’t lie on back despite a lot of burping/ winding after feeds, just cries
  • goes red pushing and twists
  • poos every 3-4 days with white chunks

Apart from feeding she is quite content!

It's possible it's an intolerance, in which case a change of formula may help. Is she on a soothing formula for delicate tummies, or whatever it's called?

If she's happy the rest of the time, and gaining weight, I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep her upright as much as possible. Some babies do make a big deal out of the whole digestion process!

What kind of bottles is she using? Have you tried the anticolic ones?

PossibiliTea · 10/05/2018 15:41

She’s not changed milk or been prescribed anything yet.

Bottles... started on tommee tippee closer to nature, didn’t seem to do well on those so I tried a nuk one, avent and dr Brown’s! Settled for Avent they seem ok. Tried infacol but doesn’t do much.

She was settled last night then just started screaming! I realise babies cry but this was different to what she’s usually like

It's tough, but they survive! Try massaging her tummy, or bending her legs to push into her tummy, to help her shift the wind.

And have a look at the range of formulas in the supermarket. There may well be one that suits her better.

Sounds like it could possibly be intolerance but she sounds quite happy from what you've written (apart from after feeds) so possibly just reflux? Only you know how bad she is but DD literally screamed constantly for 6 months until she was diagnosed and we changed formulas. Can you buy a tin of hypoallergenic formula to trial to see if things improve?

I will give it a go, thank you for your advice.

She’s just passed wind and cried and it’s super smelly!!

Ooo need some more advice please! Went back to then GP and was told to try the anti reflux milk.

Does this take a while to work? She doesn’t spit up much I personally think it’s the pain of the acid that’s causing the problems! Due back at the GP next Friday for a review but is waiting going to cause damage?

No, no damage.
