Baby proof garden patio paving stones?

My 18 mo has already hurt herself a few times on our large patio which is all paving stones. Can anyone please recommend anything you can cover it with for a good degree of baby proofing?!

Those link together foam squares? Or maybe you can lay artificial lawn over the top as a temporary measure?

I did think of those squares we have in the living room but don't know how durable they are. Will look at the turf too!

You can buy the foam type squares from b&q made specifically for the garden so they can withstand weather etc without having to take them up all the time. We bought a few packs last summer for MILs garden and intend to get some this year for ours now the patio isn't a jungle!
