DS staying with his dad while I go on holiday?

Hello,

I am not sure if I have posted this in the right place!

Basically, I have a DS who is 11yo and starting secondary in September. Myself and his dad are separated and have been since he was a couple of weeks old. We co-parent well, a few disagreements here and there, but I think that is normal!

I have been with my partner for 5 years and we would like to go to Turkey with my parents next July, before the kids break up for school. I will be asking my DS dad if our son can stay with him for those 2 weeks. I am thinking it is not a big request - he will be 12yo so does not need to much looking after, his secondary school is a lot closer to his dads house, he has a step brother who will be at the same school and in the same year.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever done this and if there were any issues or problems?

Any advice or experience welcomed :)

Thank you

Seems a perfectly reasonable request to me. Has this never arisen before in 11 years? Hasn't his dad ever been away and you had sole care?

How much does your DS see his dad now?

Sounds absolutely fine to me.

He’s his dad, shouldn’t be any problem whatsoever.

OrchidInTheSun thank you for your reply. I have been away for an odd weekend here and there and DS dad has had him for 2 nights. But normally my parents would have him for some of the time as he can be a little awkward.

At the moment he stays over every other Friday night and is there for 4 hours on the in between Saturday. So he does not spend much time with his dad, that's the only thing that makes me think he would not be too happy with having him.

Mannix and NorthernSpirit Thank you so much for the replies, I really hope there is no problem. It wouldn't be a regular thing, we'll soon see I suppose! Smile
