NC. Regular poster.

DS seems to be suffering with a nasty sickness bug. Sickness for 2 days followed by diarrhea since Thursday. He was really poorly Thursday night to the point where 111 when I called for advise almost called him an ambulance due to some of his symptoms.

He had that one really bad day/evening, slept for 8 hours of the day could barely wake him wasn't eating drinking & weeing anything (hence the almost ambulance decision) but since then has been his usual, albeit slightly more cuddly (understandably), self just not eating and diarrhea etc.

The problem I have is that it's now affecting literally everything else. He is hungry but won't eat, what I can tempt him with (suggested things, banana toast etc) goes straight through him. He is starving all the time so he can't sleep etc screams a heartbreaking scream for hours on end until he falls asleep in the evenings. He is literally crying himself to sleep (yes I am comforting him and cuddling him)

He is drinking plenty now so no danger of dehydration etc but any tips on how to help him?? He's had bugs before but not as awful as this one. Thanks!

How old is he?

I would want him seen tbh

stupidwispyhair · 06/05/2018 18:10

RandomMess he is 16 months. I've taken him to docs before and even A&E before last time as directed by 111 but they just sort of looked at me and went "it's a stomach bug there's nothing we can do"

What is he drinking?

stupidwispyhair · 06/05/2018 18:15

He hasn't been seen physically this bout. Rang 111 Thursday, the lady I spoke to told me on the phone it was a 'non emergency ambulance situation' I asked if it would be easier to take DS to A&E myself and she said she wanted a doctor to confirm her decision before she sent an ambulance and a doctor would call me back within 15 mins. A dr called 5 mins later and said as long as he was conscious and there was no blood in his vomit/diarrhea it's just a nasty bug and to let it pass by itself as there's nothing they could do. I asked if DS needed any ORS solution to prevent dehydration, and he said it was my judgement call as to if he needs it or not. Luckily he's been drinking like a trooper since it's just no food stays in him and he's screaming all the time - I'm not surprised he must be starving

I don't think the screaming is normal tbh and if it were my DC at that age I'd want them seen. Doesn't your GO have an out of hours service?

Presumably you've tried pain relief to see if it makes a difference?

stupidwispyhair · 06/05/2018 18:21

No GP surgery just directs you to 111 if you call out of office hours.

I've given calpol as and when needed in case he is in pain, however he does have 2 teeth coming through so am positive that's not helping. Have tried a variety of different foods all of which suggested for children with diarrhea but to no avail

Can you give him things like smoothies, thick soups, thin porridge, from a cup so he is 'drinking' food.

Foodylicious · 06/05/2018 18:42

Tbh I'd just call 111 again.
It's 3 days later and he's showing no sign of improvement.

If he is willing to eat, i would just keep feeding him things he will have and then dealing with the nappies after.

stupidwispyhair · 06/05/2018 19:11

Banana seems to be ok ish. So sticking with that. It's awful seeing him so hungry but not being able to help him. Then obviously I'm worried about his banana intake per day BlushBlush

Ice poles. Keep him hydrated. My 2 had this all last week. Horrible, but they are through it now.
