15 month old napping so much at weekends

Our 15 month old ds goes to nursery 4 days a week, he loves it there and is generally a very happy easy going baby.

Whilst at nursery he has one nap around midday lasting for about 1.5 hours max. By the time he gets home at 5 he is shattered so he tends to be in bed fast asleep by 6pm.

On the days he isn't at nursery it's completely different, he gets up usual time but after a couple of hours is ready for bed so we put him down and he sleeps for a good 2-3 hours. Hes then awake the rest of the day but, again, shattered by 5pm so still in bed at 6pm zonko.

We don't want to wake him as feel like he obviously needs the kip but should we be waking? I feel like it's not normal for his age to be doing this but the guilt of sending him to nursery makes me want to let him do what he wants/needs when not there.

Has anyone else had this?

DS had two naps at home for nearly a year after he moved to one nap, and kept his afternoon nap for another year after dropping it at nursery! He'll still have a nap at home aged 3.5 if he's had a bad night or we've worn him at eg soft play on the morning (though we avoid it because he doesn't want to go to bed when he's had a nap). I think it's really normal - he's much more stimulated at nursery, plus he's recovering from a busy week. As long as his bedtime and his nighttime sleep remains unaffected, just enjoy the free time!

Nursery is tiring. There is something going on all the time. He will need to rest lots at the weekend and days off. Enjoy the peace!

Sounds normal to me, if my DS is comfy he can easily do a 3 hour nap but tends to do about an 1 hour if he's else where (ie in the car, with a grandparent etc) he's 17months

He probably need a slightly longer nap at nursery, but I bet the noise and activities going on are waking him up. He is probably just catching up on weekends

Thanks all, feel more reassured will leave him be!

2-3 hour nap is normal for a 15 month old. Oh how I loved those days!

I don't see any problem at all. Rather, I think it's normal for 15 mos old having 2 to 3 hours nap.

Totally normal. As others have said, sounds like he needs longer but isn’t getting it at nursery probably due to noise and the other kids waking. He’s making up for it at home.

My DS used to be the same that age. Wouldn’t sleep for long when there was lots going on, but if we were home and it was quiet, would easily do 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

Enjoy. It won’t last forever!

Haha ok will make the most of it, just sometimes feel like we are held hostage in the house until he wakes up especially if a lovely sunny day like today but plenty of time to get out when he's older I guess.
