Is baby teething? Or sleep regression?

Hello all!
FTM and need some advice please Smile The past few night my 15 week old has been very restless at bedtime and taken nearly 2 hours to get to sleep. Lots of screaming and fighting sleep. His eyes will be rolling and then he will start going to sleep then it’s as if he remembers that he’s meant to be fighting it and wakes back up crying. Lots of rubbing eyes.
He’s generally awake at about 5pm after his last nap, then it’s bath time, bedtime massage (only for a few minutes) and a bottle in darkened room with the white noise maker on. This used to work but now I’m unsure if he’s going through 4 month sleep regression or teething?
During the day he only naps for half an hour at a time, he will have three or four naps. He’s putting his hands in his mouth a lot but has been for a few weeks. Wasn’t sure if he’s discovering his handies or if he’s teething? During the day he doesn’t cry at all, only when I’m rocking him to sleep for his nap. Sometimes I can put him straight down and he will have a little grizzle then sleep.
Can anyone offer any advice please on what I’m doing wrong/right, if it could be teething or if it’s sleep regression?
Thank you!Flowers

Babies go through multiple developmental meals and growth spurts in the first year. Have you heard of the wonder weeks? I recommend the wonder weeks app. The latter coupled with teething and the reactions they can get after imms it’s almost as if they’re always going through something. Ds was extremely unsettled at that age and seemed to improve a lot at 6.5 months.

leaps* that should say! Hmm

Hi there, have you got the wonder weeks app/book? It's fantastic for highlighting "fussy phases" and explaining why your baby may be fussy during specific weeks- they call them developmental leaps. I have found them to be very accurate with my 7 month old. It may just be that your LO is going through a leap!

Hope you get some sleep soon! X

@PasstheStarmix great minds ha!

Thank you! Once he’s asleep at night he’s not too bad, wakes at about midnight then four then seven. It’s just getting him off to sleep that he’s being extremely restless.

I’m going to sound really thick (first time mum!) but how will I know when he’s teething? He hasn’t got red cheeks which I thought was a sign. He is blowing bubbles a lot more lately though. He’s got reflux and cmpa so have put the hands in his mouth down to that? Last night he kept pulling his dummy out then shoving his hand in his mouth then crying for the dummy back in again

My son use to play with his ears when he was teething and you could feel the bumps on his gums. He also use to bite everything and slaver everywhere & he had runny poos x

greyweather · 02/05/2018 11:42

Not daft at all- I wonder the same! At around 4 months my baby was being really fussy and he wanted to put everything in his mouth and his gums were really hard, but 3 months later we still have no teeth!

Smellybears · 02/05/2018 11:44

His guns are hard, I put my (clean antibacterialed) finger in his mouth before to see if I could feel anything and he was really chewing down on it. Could this be a sign?

Trying to get him to nap now and he keeps pushing his dummy out and putting his hand in

Agree with Lmj. Ds used to pull his ears (still does actually when cutting a new tooth) and chew on everything. It was furious chewing though and he would drool like crazy. He didn’t get the red cheeks until much later when he started to cut molars. Great tips for teething apart from obvious teether toys are:
Clean wet wash cloth in the fridge and then let baby chew on it supervised.
Pacifier in the fridge also works amazingly.
I didn’t find teething gels worked but bonjela baby was the best of a bad bunch and you can rub it on gums or on dummy if gums too sore.

PasstheStarmix · 02/05/2018 11:56

When the teeth are pushing down you’ll notice the gums become realy he’s and sometimes see white. Also when your baby is chewing on a teether they’ll keep aiming it for a specific place (where the tooth is coming in.)

really hard*

Phase84 · 02/05/2018 11:57

This sounds like my 4m old but i believe its just sleep regression as he doesnt seem to distressed during the day. My dc has very short naps and if i think he is struggling with napping i take him out for a pram.

You're not doing anything wrong and i ride the rough with the smooth. Im not a fan of bedtime as gets overtired quick and hasn't learnt to self settle yet. But he does eventually go off.

Smellybears · 02/05/2018 12:01

I’ll get some bongela ready for when he’s teething then Grin Ashton and parsons granules are meant to be good as well aren’t they?
He’s now smiling at me after I’ve put his dummy in for about the billionth time, the naughty pixie!! Wink

PasstheStarmix · 02/05/2018 12:02

Some people swear but the granules but they did nothing for ds other than distract him for one minute then he was crying again!

I’ve got a tether already in the fridge ready for when needed! It’s one of those ones with gel in it, apparently they stay cooler for longer?

Thank you! Sounds like trial and error with the teething remedies then......just like with everything else! 😂

PasstheStarmix · 02/05/2018 12:05

Yes they do but ds preceded his ordinary teethers and cold pacifier to those. For some reason he didn’t take to them even when I held it for him. Also when he started to cut teeth I was too scared he’s pop one of them.

PasstheStarmix · 02/05/2018 12:07

Oh it is as all babies are difference so what works for one may not for another. It’ll be much better when you can wean him and offer cold yoghurt as that was my saviour. I’ve heard of people making breast milk ice lollies or getting one of those net feeders and putting frozen fruit in too. What ever works I suppose.
