Babysitter

I take DS (8 months) to a baby group and there is another Mum who brings her nanny with her as she has two DC. The nanny seems lovely and on chatting to her she has offered her babysitting services. I don't know the Mum and can't speak to her alone but surely can assume she's more than happy with the nanny, so should I still do my own checks? What would I check?

I would prefer to use a word of mouth babysitter than find one online or use an agency. But just wondering if I should be doing more before leaving DS with someone I don't really know.

I've never been in this situation but I would probably do my own checks just to be sure
