Question about soaking nappies from a dry-pailer

I usually dry pail my nappies but a couple of days of a teething bum has meant I have to soak them. What do I soak them in and how long can I leave them before washing?

Haven't got any of the either but I have got lavender oil so I will use that. i'd fogotten about my mesh bag, I will use that! Thanks for your help.
