Have just bought something on ebay and am a bit at how much it will cost to send money to the seller's bank account. I was hoping somebody would be able to tell me how to say: "Could I please send you cash (euros) by secure post as it is very expensive to transfer money. If this is okay, please let me know your address. Many thanks."

I would be very grateful!!!!!!! (Must learn German, must learn German...)

This is very basic german 'cause I'm no good anymore but here goes:

"Kann ich Euros von sicher post senden bitte? Es ist sehr teuer eine Geld Ubertragung machen. Wenn das ok ist, konnen Sie ihre Adresse zu mir geben? Danke Schon. "

This should make you understood but is very simple with grammatical mistakes I am sure!
Would have asked Michaelad for you but she's on holiday!

Thank you, that is wonderful

Hi TooTicky, if you haven't sent it yet you could say
"Könnte ich Ihnen das Geld bitte in bar per versichertem Wertbrief senden, da es leider sehr teuer ist, Geld zu überweisen? Falls das in Ordnung ist, senden Sie mir bitte Ihre Adresse. Vielen Dank im Voraus."
If you sent it, luciemules translation is perfectly understandable.

Bye!

luciemule · 14/05/2007 21:30

Oh wow, linjasmom - thanks for the compliment. I'm so bad at German - you'd never have thought I did A-level and lived there for a year would you?!!!!

linjasmom · 14/05/2007 21:40

Hi luciemule, I love your pics! Your German is really good and understandable and that sentence was quite tricky! Plus, German is much more complicated than English, I think. Ta-ta!!

linjasmom · 14/05/2007 21:41

Whereabouts did you live in Germany?

luciemule · 14/05/2007 21:43

Hi Linjasmom - we lived with the forces in Fallingbostel in the Luneburger Heide, whcih was just stunning. Are you German? We did ask to go back this summer but as usual, the army sent us somewhere completely different! We'd have jumped at the chance though.

linjasmom · 15/05/2007 12:27

Hi luciemule, I am German and living in Germany with German dh but trying to raise dd bilingually as my English is fairly good and so far it works. I thought I wanted to give her this opportunity, hope she will share this view later on.... I live near Köln btw. Maybe you'll have a chance to come back soon! XX

macmama73 · 15/05/2007 19:36

@Linjasmom
Hi, I am (fairly) near Köln too. Well, nearer to Düsseldorf really but under an hour from Köln. How old is your DD?

I have a DD (5) and DS (almost 3). I am from Scotland and have been in Germany for almost 15 years.

@Tooticky
I have heard that bank transers should be getting cheaper soon. The new EU law should come into force sometime this year I think, don't know if it will be available for sterling too.

linjasmom · 15/05/2007 22:40

Hi macmama, my dd is almost 22 months old (scary how time passes....). Actually we live nearer Dortmund, but under an hour drive to Köln, too.

TooTicky · 15/05/2007 22:45

Ooh, hello everybody
Thanks for all your help. I jolly well hope bank transfers do get cheaper - I have developed a passion for German ebay and I sometimes forget to check if the seller takes paypal. The Halifax wanted £17.50 to transfer 12 Euros So I have crossed my fingers and sent cash instead.
