How do you keep your children safe online?

Just read article on BBC News about how half of all children have made contact with someone they don't know online.
How do you keep your chidlren safe on the internet? What rules / advice / software can you recommend?

I've installed a key logger, In Loco Parentis as seen on This Morning, it lets me see who dd is chatting to & content of conversation, so far there's been no problems.
