Can't get room dark enough, any tips?

Toddler sleeps quite well but is waking earlier and earlier as the dawn gets earlier. He has both blackout blinds and curtains but there is a sliver of light around the blinds (they sit in the recess of the window) and then the curtains sit outside the recess so the light comes through.

Has anyone had this problem and been able to get rid of the sliver of light around the blinds? In his nursery we had blackout stuff velcroed onto his windows pretty much permanently but I'd rather not do that in his toddler room as it's a faff to get on and off.

Is there something that sticks the curtains to the wall maybe?

You can get strips of velcro that you can sew on to the curtains, the other half is sticky-backed so you can stick it on to the window frame.

Alternatively we used a wire to tuck and hold the curtain in - the kind of wire you would use for hanging a net curtain. We strung it at the bottom of the window and tucked in the curtain to block out the light.

I used to pin the curtains to the wall with drawing pins . Velcro sounds better though.

Tin foil bluetacked around the window. Works a treat but looks a bit odd from the outside!

Perfect fit blackout blinds? I've not got them yet but read really good reviews so going to get them for my DCs rooms when we move. They clip onto the window frame.

We stuck tinfoil over the windows. It sticks really well with just water.

We used a blackout blind with velcro works so well we got one for our room room, it came from easy blackout blinds on amazon, i think.
