Toddler hates joining in

Dd is 2.5 and very outgoing and confident, however she sometimes does this thing where I (think) she pretends to be shy, like she'll pretend to be scared of people talking to her.

She also HATES joining in with group singing etc, this is the case at playgroups but her pre school also mentioned it to me.

What's it all about? Some form of rebellion? Is there anything I should do about it? I tend to just ignore it at playgroups and she'll often come and join in but right at the end. Is it for attention?

At 2.5, DD was exactly the same. Actually still is with classes etc.

However she’s at a better nursery now which she loves and she joins in much more. At least I think she does, she’s definitely happier although I guess it’s hard for me to gauge how involved she is.

In her case it’s definitely shyness though, she’ll still cling to me if I take her to a class.
