Mum guilt - older sibling

Hi all, I gave birth a week ago to my second son. I've had a couple of complications since the birth, my stitches came out and got infected so I haven't been able to move around a lot.

I feel so guilty because I can't do anything with my three year old. Fortunately I have a fantastic MIL who is here a lot and keeping him entertained while I do the minimum to recover. I love my newborn but I'm getting really sad that I can't give my first born the attention he needs.. is this normal, for people with more than one child?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh yes!

Welcome to the rest of your life!

Completely normal.

It will pass when you see what an amazing gift a sibling is for your older DC.

My 3.5 yo found it hard to adjust when her sister came along but she dotes on her s few months later. Is do heartwarming to see them together now.

Assuming you can still give cuddles and stories your pfb will still love you!!

I've found it tough too, I have a 3.5 year old and 3 month old. It has got easier lately and my first born has settled down and so far seems to love his little sister!

Mim135 · 20/04/2018 21:07

This is good to know, my boy is also 3.5 and he seems to adore his little brother - I think it's me trying to split my time evenly when little one is so young, so it's impossible atm. Glad things got easier quite quickly for you!

Totally normal. I cried after second child was born that I had ruined DS life. Hang on in there Thanks

Marmite27 · 20/04/2018 21:12

2.5 years and s 10 day old here.

I’ve been in hospital 9 days. Thank goodness for the big ones nursery for normality for her.

Mim135 · 20/04/2018 21:53

Oh no, sorry to hear that! Hope you're on the mend now - must be tough to be away from your little one for so long x
