Birds Eye Petit Pois / Peas suitable for 6 month old baby?

Hi all

I have just started weaning and wondered if anyone can tell me whether birds eye petit pois peas are ok? I am conscious that they are to have no added salt and sugar and assume looking at the ingredients that the sugar in the peas are naturally occurring. These peas do seem a lot sweeter than any normal frozen peas but my baby loves them - any advice appreciated - thanks

That should read I am assuming that there is no added salt or sugar in the peas apart from naturally occurring sugar?

PFB? :)

Totally fine. And practically the only veg DD will eat at 4.5

JessieMcJessie · 16/04/2018 10:44

Yes, they are absolutely fine, don’t worry. And enjoy your DC loving vegetables while you can- by 18 months he or she will probably refuse them all and only want to eat toast!

Have a look at some baby led weaning cookbooks to put your mind at rest.

Absolutely fine tho a 6 month old won't have developed the pincer grip to pick them up. I didn't give DD peas until she was a little older as we did BLW but if you're planning on pureeing them then all ok.

mindutopia · 16/04/2018 11:02

If you are puréeing or mashing, yes. If you are doing blw, then at 6 months they don’t have the pincer grip yet to self feed, so I’d probably hold off a bit. Mine could eat them by 8 months just fine. But any fruit and veg with naturally occurring sugars is fine in moderation.

Blimey op yes peas are fine! But at 6 months I would finely puree them because mashed they retain a kind of skin that can be tricky to swallow.
Anything that grew on a tree or in the ground is fine, everything has naturally occurring sugars, it's totally fine!

It’s a pea, it’s honesly fine. Mine have all loved peas from the start of weaning

DD could eat peas at 6 month, it wasn't exactly a pure pincer grip, but there was enough hand dexterity to get them in to her mouth.

Peas are a great food.

Agree peas are fine and they learn really quickly how to pick them up. It starts of as more of a palm based scoop!
Both mine manged them, and sweetcorn surprisingly well!
