Obsessed with potty!

New problem now with the potty training! DS is 2.5 and we have recently started. First few days with nothing on his bottom half and he went to the potty fine and then got off. Now he is in big boy pants (big ones so easy to pull down) and he won't get off the potty!! He sits on it for ages..normally he goes to it..does something like a wee which he is happy about but then he stays on it as I think he believes he needs to go again (which he generally doesn't). When he gets up he is reluctant to pull the pants up and says "need a wee!!!" and sits down again. As I write this he is sat on it quite happily chatting to himself!!

I think part of it is that he is unsure about whether he needs to do any more on the potty so he figures might as well stay sat on it! Also he likes the attention it is getting him I think!!

So any ideas...any way to get my boy off the potty without scaring him off the whole process!?!?!

he will do it of his own accord.....dd is just starting to use the toilet now. She is forever on it at the moment...yet she has been using the potty for the past 3 months!! she was like it witht the potty to start with...always on it. I just used to leave a pile of books near her potty so she had something to do. She soon go on and off of her own accord...i thought she was going to end up with it welded to her bum!!! Trouble is now, she causes a queue for the toilet by constantly being on it!!! Im dure it will pass though. Good luck!!

Ps you are lucky that he is even on it!!! ds1 was petrified of the potty!!

That's how ds1 started out with potty-training. He just sat there for literally hours and didn't want pants on. Once he'd decided he'd got it sussed he walked about, still with no pants on but only sitting on the potty when he needed to go. The next stage was when he asked for pants. Ds1 is a lot older than most children who are potty-training but it seemed to me as though he was making sure he was confident about each stage before he went on to the next one. It's likely that your ds is doing something similar.
