I flew so fast to his room. I nearly smashed threw the door.

Thank god a million times he's fine but oh my god I'm absolutely terrified now & don't want to go to sleep tonight.

This is only the second time it's gone off. He's nearly 13 months.

How do I get over this and calm down??

You stop using the mat. No good for babies who move anyway.

ShowOfHands · 12/04/2018 21:05

Unless he has additional health needs, at 13 months you probably need to get rid of the mat.

Nogodsnomasters · 12/04/2018 21:05

Over the age of 1 year old now I'd stop using it, his chance of sids is extremely low now (assuming that's why it's being used), monitor is enough at this age, even if you use a video one for extra reassurance.

Is it an angel mat? My ds2 had one (would only sleep on his front) and that went off a few times. It sends your heart racing like anything. At least you know it's working, which can only be a good thing. Try and relax, maybe leave both doors open too, just for tonight if you're feeling jumpy. Smile

He's perfectly healthy, no additional needs although he's constantly snotty and does breath like he's a good 5st overweight (he's not btw!).

I was considering removing it but he's only just over 12 months. I didn't want to chance it

Yes get rid.

You're not chancing anything not using a mat alarm with a 12 month old. Those are only any use for babies who don't yet move around. They are really not designed for children who are on the verge of being toddlers, if they aren't already (all mine were walking by 12 months and could wake up anywhere in the cot, certainly not in the same position I'd put them to bed in! They were usually standing up in the cot, in their sleeping bags, in the morning which would also have set a mat alarm off!)

Chocolateanddiamonds · 13/04/2018 22:50

I had to remove mines at around 10/11 months because dc was all over the cot and constantly setting it off. Been absolutely fine.

TBH I still use breathing monitors for a just turbedc2 year old. Two of the Nanny breathing monitors (go into one alarm) cover the whole of the large cot. We have had very few false alarms but yes terrifying even they happen.
