Balance bike

How long did it take your kids to get the hang of a balance bike?
My just 2.5 year old is back on hers after the winter and she absolutely loves it but she just walks round holding the handlebars and doesn't sit down on the seat or try and scoot to get any of the 'balance' action. She has borrowed tricycles and loves cycling on them but I thought it would be best to have a balance bike.

DC1 was past 3 by the time he balance bike was sat on with legs up and free wheeling.

My son is 2.3 and can’t get the hang of it either! He is quite short for his age though and he loves his skuttle bug which he obviously finds easier. I’m hoping that he’ll pick it up over the summer!

OP, which tricycles does your daughter use? Can she pedal them? My son can’t get the hang of that either! I did wonder if he was a bit young for peddling?

My son was 3 in January and does the same and still crashes to the ground!! He's not great on a scooter either!

Both kids could balance bike within about 6 weeks of getting one the right size (about 2.5), but we did take it out on the pavement for a try every day, just 10m up the road and back again. They need practice to get enough confidence / familiarity to sit down, and then to put their feet up.

My son had a balance bike from the age of 2 and he couldn't do it at first as it was too big. However by 2yrs 9 months he was doing it. By 2yrs 11 months he was riding a 2 wheeler (obvs no stabilisers) . Keep with it, may just be too big or too heavy. Don't opt for stabilisers they will only push the child's riding back further in the long run.

Ok we will keep plodding on. I'd heard about how great balance bikes are, just wasn't sure as dd doesn't attempt to sit and scoot so seems a bit pointless at the moment but maybe she will get it. In any case it's not doing any harm and she enjoys walking around with it.
summerdays not sure, just some generic but small tricycles they had at playgroup and nursery. She loved them and got up a bit more speed. She is very tall.

I'm just looking to getting my 2yo his own balance bike, would you recommend? Or wait til he is older? And by balance bike do you mean something like this?? www.hargrovescycles.co.uk/specialized-hotwalk-girls-2018-kids-bike.html
also how do you know what size is best??
thanks in advance

My first struggled with it until he saw someone else riding one properly (at about age 3) and then could use it properly.
My 2 1/2 year old is walking with it still, despite being shown.

thank you, maybe his older sibling can show him how it's done?
