9wk old dropping feeds...

Hi all,

Looking for advice as my 9wk old has dropped 3 feeds in the last week. He had his jabs last Tuesday and since then has dropped from 8 to 5 feeds. He is on 4oz's and has been for 3weeks. He was on 5oz but I was told by docs to cut him back to 4oz because of reflux. He's not screaming for food after so assume he is content.

I've contacted HV but she's now on the sick and the other one I've contacted isn't responding to my messages.

Any advice on if I should be concerned? The only change this week really is his jabs.

Thanks.

If he’s had his jabs recently, have you tried him with some calpol?

Are you getting plenty of wet nappies and is he bright and alert at times?

I gave him calpol for one day as per instructions from doc but not since. Plenty of wet and dirty nappies too. He's bright and alert when awake but is sleeping a bit more often than normal in the day. He still has his nightly sleep of 11-7am, it's just the reduced feeds and concerned he's not getting enough.

He needs roughly 2.5 floz of formula milk in 24 hours per pound in weight. So if he’s 10lb he needs about 25floz a day.

If you use that equation, is he getting enough?

No then - he weight 10.8lbs on Tuesday. Will keep an eye on it tomorrow but may pop him to docs on Monday. Thanks for your help x

I would go to the gp but just for piece of mind it might be worth calling 111 I only say this as the drop in feeds plus increased sleep time would raise a flag for me. Good signs of course are that he has plenty of wet and dirty nappies. I hope he (and you) are ok OP

I second what *mommybear’ says Smile

Remember guidelines are just that - guidelines. If he’s happy and content, wet and dirty nappies etc then he’s probably getting enough food.

My babies were all down to five bottles by that stage and now at five months my youngest has four 8oz bottles.

Go to the drs if you’re really worried but I’m sure it’s fine.

My daughter is 9 weeks old tomorrow and she only has 6 feeds a day and only takes a max of 3.5 oz at time. I wouldn’t worry as every baby is different... sometimes when they’re going through a leap they drink more and then drop down again. If he’s happy and content I’m sure he’s fine, babies will definitely not hold back if they’re still hungry ha 🙈! X

Girl is your baby a similar weight to the OPs?

GirlGang89 · 08/04/2018 20:22

I have only just seen the OP weight... my daughter was 9lb a week ago so she is less x

It sounds like your DD is within an ounce or two of the guidelines then Smile
