In a nutshell, DH is self employed, works extremely long hours and is also studying. Evenings are spent studying/catching up with paperwork/answering non-stop calls and helps me bath/bed the kids when he can - for me is a bonus, don't depend on it.

We were supposed to be going away this weekend, nothing glam, a trip to the ILs I was actually looking fwd to it because we catch up and spend some quality time together during long car journey and I was hoping for a break. Now DH can't go and it is another weekend at home. I'm not complaining as such, he works really hard which allows me to stay at home with my little ones etc.. but what do you do with the kids when you spend 5 days of the week making such decisions IYSWIM. Fortunately, they are small, DS1 17mth and DS2 3 months however, DS1 needs to be outdoors for at least a couple of hours a day.
Where could i go of a weekend that is a break from the norm with two little ones and no car? Just feel that i have no weekends to look fwd to anymore if i just go round shops/parks etc. Don't want to mention it to DH as he has loads on his plate right now and bills coming out of his ears - don't want to appear selfish.
Any ideas? Am thinking that even if we're home (weather etc.) perhaps no housework, pc etc.. just full one to one with DS1...rambling now as always when tired.
Thanks if you got this far.

i don't what the norm is for you but at weekends i take ds to the park, swimming for a walk in the woods, sometimes we go to soft play or the aquarium or zoo and occasionally even a museum and art gallery!!

Is there anywhere you could go on the train ChaCha? My dh is often away for long periods and I sometimes just go exploring new places along the railway line.

Take a picnic and head off for the day.
