Does anyone else use a fresh wrap every time?

Just wondering as nappy packs always have like 1 wrap for every 3 nappies or something like that.
I like to have as many wraps as I do nappies and always wash after just one use, seems icky not to.

I leave them on unless they are particularly wet, binding is wet or smell! I have about 10 wraps and 20 nappies so could change more often - but ds3 about to grow out of 5 of those wraps

OH NO FEEL NAPPY SHOPPING SPREE COMING ON

tassis · 10/05/2007 19:31

well I always knew I was a minker

i had 14 nappies and only 3 wraps for ages, then bought a 4th wrap

bobsmum · 10/05/2007 19:32

I use one wrap a day and a clean one for night. In almost 5 years of using washables (on 2 children!) I've only changed wraps the half a dozen times that there has been poo on the wrap.

The wrap shouldn't get wet. Unless you're using fleece or wool there shouldn't be anything from the nappy on the wrap.

I couln't cope with that amount of extra washing - must be quite pricey too?

I have lots of wraps because they're cute htough

2 strawberries
4 eco theme
one planets
one blue flowers
one lilac flowers
one rainbow fleece
one polka dot

Flip me - that's loads - so I could do one wrap per nappy. But then they wouldn't always co-ordinate with dd's outfit

Pannacotta · 10/05/2007 19:37

Same as bobsmum, only change wraps daily unless it gets dirty with a dirty nappy. Otherwise way too much washing and too pricey to have to buy them all...

octo · 10/05/2007 19:39

bobsmum - how do you rate your tots wraps? I'm a motherease/onelife fan - but the tots ones do look very lovely but I hear they leak..????

My wraps get soaked on my ds3 (3 weeks old) because he can pee for england and soak through btp's, wambamboos, prefolds - whatever in about 2 hours - I am truly baffled - he is no3 in cloth so know what am doing but buying leaky wraps would make me screaaaaaammmmm!

Bought a reb (??) xxl wrap for ds2 the other day - my sister thought it was for me it was so big [cheek of it] - but it does fit him and works great - thanks flame!

octo · 10/05/2007 19:40

btw I do change him every 2-3hours - its a bugger at night though as am already boosting his nappies - esp on his 6 hour stint.

kittypants · 10/05/2007 19:45

we use 2 wraps a day, airing one whilst other is being worn.

hana · 10/05/2007 19:47

I prob 2 or 3 a day and just air them between using them

Malaleche · 10/05/2007 19:49

we have 24 nappies and 3 wraps, we air the ones we take off and put the other on. If they get poo on they go straight in the wash. It's hard to tell when the only wet wraps need a wash tbh as they all look the same, it's a bit random how often they get one

Washersaurus · 10/05/2007 20:07

I use the same one all day and a new one at night, unless DS has freak poo explosion when it is always handy to have spare wrap around!

I've always thought a quick wipe if necessary would suffice - mind you, if using tots bots wraps which usually get all wet on the bindings then I change it.

yomellamoHelly · 10/05/2007 20:10

Put a clean one on after bath at night and it stays on 'til bathtime next day unless there's been and explosion. Have 3 wraps for each ds.

bobsmum · 10/05/2007 20:40

Octo - The totsbots wraps are my least favourite performance-wise because of the binding. Whatever fabric they use wicks really badly and is nearly always damp. However the fit it good and the actually PUL is ok.

The new styles have a gusset but the binding is still the same material so I've heard they still have the same problems.

It's a real shame because I think the nappies and the style of wraps are so fab. I just don't understand why they've never sorted the binding issue.

I think they'll be great in the summer though with a t shirt or under a dress because they'll get a chance to evaporate. Then the cute factor can kick in

I like the Wee Notions wraps - they are double layered - PUL and then a stretchy lycra type on top - a bit like Nature Babies (also good). Wee Notions have a similar binding to Tots but it feels a bit thicker and is less prone to wick. Not perfect though.

My ME wraps started to leak after 18 months or so. But that was the old whales/pawprints style. I tumbled them a few times too, which is meant to be big no no. The new style eco ones seem to be a better quality PUL and I've had no problems at all with them until dd was due to move a size up.

pinkspottywellies · 10/05/2007 20:58

I have 4 Kushies wraps. I change the wrap every time but just rinse them in the sink when I wash my hands and hang on the bathroom radiator. I put them in the wash when they're pooey and make sure they all get washed occasionally.

Flamesparrow · 10/05/2007 22:20

Ooh glad it fits!!

I only change day and night. Occasionally his bumsnuggler fleece needs changing earlier as the embroidery on the front gets damp.

horsemadgal · 10/05/2007 22:51

EEK, I knew I must be the only one!
My son is a heavy wetter and there is always dampness on the wraps. I boost every nappy and change max 3 hours. I use M/Ease airflows mainly and I feel the wetness is on the bindings and gets smelly.
Doesn't make much difference to my washing as wraps don't take up much room.
But ah yes the price!!
