August birthday party

Hi I'm after some advice please. DS will be 4 at the end of August (bank holiday weekend), and this is the first year he will have a large birthday party. I'm thinking of a bouncy castle in a village hall - type of thing. I will invite a bunch of kids from his nursery, as well as a handful of NCT-type friends and handful of cousins (not local - may not come).

The question is when to have the party. It seems fairly obvious that in future years it would make sense to do it first week of September once everyone is back from holidays. However, this year I'm not sure if it would work as he currently goes to a private nursery and all the kids will be going to different schools come September. Would anyone actually come?

The other option would be July, before people go on holiday. However, I suspect this may clash with others who are doing the same thing (NCT friends and cousins with August birthdays). Also it would be a good 6 weeks before his actual birthday.

We have a DC with an August birthday as well and it can be difficult. We’ve decided to do the parties on a date that suits us and just accept that lots of people won’t be able to make it. As his birthday is so late in August, it might be worth doing the party the weekend after you planned though and sending out the invitations in July with reminder texts the week before.

Tbh it doesn't matter when you book it, there will be people that can't make it!

For this year I would book w/e of 1st/2nd Sept - most people will be back from hols and at home but won't have started new schools etc.
As an August bank hol birthday it's always difficult even as an adult because so many people go away then.

Do you think people will come in September even though they will all have finished nursery and essentially gone their separate ways to different schools? That's just what I'm not sure about.

I'm definitely not doing it BH weekend for various reasons, but not sure whether to do it the weekend before or the one after.

Ps. As it's a private nursery, it is still open all through August

If it's a private nursery and still open in August I would have thought 31st would be the last day for most "full timers" (non funded children) in which case perfect timing I would have thought?
Can you put feelers out maybe with nursery staff to see how school transition generally works timing wise with hols?
