PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

i have an essay to complete - 3000 words and i haven't a clue where to start

question is: gender is more than socialisation into roles. discuss

i have the most basic of plans and it is not going to get me 3000 words.

so far i have written down

  1. differences between biological sex and gender
  1. how is gender acquired. gender roles etc
  1. performance

should i include stuff on gender identity, gender constancy?

oh and what about identity development and formation?

i understand no one is going to be about at 4:35am but if anyone can help i'd really appreciate it. it's just suddenly hit me that i really don't know what to do and i am sat here in tears stressing about it

i am doing social sciences

your plan looks like it covers the basics, so elaborate on those points.

somewhere near the top of the assignment i would personally talk about identity development - parental influences, media, etc. the nuclear family influence on gender identity.

parental/educational influences- subjects in schools, toys given to you, boys = cars, girls = dolls, etc. (expectations in media of women and men = MD's of companies men, part time work women.not sure how relevant but round reading on this may help?)

i wrote an assignment similar to this in october, i will have a look at it and get back to you if you need any more help??

very random but i sort of walked out of uni today. not a rash decision, i have been thinking about it since january, just wish i'd done it sooner and not wasted 5 months doing nothing!

am hopefully going to go back and do a degree in social work.

i was only doing that module as an elective as part of a spanish degree and really enjoyed it so am going to branch out into that. but it seemed a bit pointless to be doing essays for something i wasn't planning on doing next year!

thanks anyway!!

glad i'm not the only one. for me social sciences was too generic - there was too much stuff that didn't interest me. when did you decide to switch? are you staying at the same uni?

yeah im staying at the same uni i was umming and arring about starting it last sept, but felt i needed a year of something to prepare me. TBH i found Social Science too woman based-sounds funny, but too much of the stuff we were taught was all about womens struggle in society.whilst i can appreciate that, too much of it becomes blah! (to me anyway) . where are you studying?

nappyaddict · 12/05/2007 15:17

i was studying social sciences and spanish. now im trying to decide between occupational therapy and social work.

so you did a year of social sciences this year and then decided to switch to SW? did you have to have an interview? i would love to start back asap but i think its too late to apply this year. what uni are you at?
