Weening question??

Hey guys,

This is most likely a stupid question but I am a first time mum and not sure so thought I would ask on here...

My baby is going to be 6 months in a couple weeks so getting ready to ween him onto solids, I want to do a mix of baby led finger food and purée... my question is, does the purée have to be super smooth or can I just mash with a fork or spoon and it still have small non smooth bits in it? I read that it has to be smooth is doing from 4 months but can't find what it says about from 6?

Thanks!

From 6 months textured purees are okay:)

I would keep it smooth for now. You can progress to lumpier textures but it might be a bit too much for a first taste. Depends on the baby and how sensitive their gag reflex is, mind Smile

I wouldn’t give very smooth food alongside finger food. Smooth food they’ll suck up and that isn’t the same as what the finger food is encouraging. I’d go with texture if you’re mixing puree and held stuff.

I did mashed food along with finger food for my DS. Worked well and he moved on from the mashed up stuff pretty quickly and just had mainly finger foods.

The only downside was that he refused to eat any of the premade baby food, presumably he didn’t like the purée texture. This was only an issue with a friend who watched twice a week for a few hours while I worked and who was anxious about choking as her kids all did purses. I couldn’t just send in some pouches, I had to provide real food for him. It was a bit of a pain.

DD is 5.5 months. I’ll probably try and get her to eat some pre made purées too as it’s handy to have a pouch in your bag if there’s nothing baby friendly when you’re out

Purées rather than purses!
