Baby fake cough?

jacobsgirl · 23/03/2018 11:03

Sounds really silly but my little boy is 7months and for the last couple of days he's been doing this weird cough but it's over dramatic and sounds forced
He smiles after he does it
I don't know if he's just trying out sounds but he's not for any symptoms it's so dramatic it's funny but I don't know why he's doing it ?
Any ideas

I would guess simply because he can!!

Experimenting with sounds. Gets a reaction, is interesting for him, new skill... both mine did this. Try fake coughing back, I bet he'll think it's hilarious!

Mine does this he is 5 months now and thinks it's hilarious 😂 unfortunately in the past 2 days he has been practicing screaming for no reason and as he is not a crying baby I come running and he smiles straight away - puppet on a string comes to mind Grin. I am however wondering what the neighbours and builders must think it sounds like he's been tortured Hmm. It'll pass soon OP I'm sure.

Oooh, I'm pleased to hear other people babies do this too! DS has had a fake cough from about 4m, he's nearly 1 now and still does it. He keeps on doing it until either DP or I do it back to him, then he laughs. He also does a really over dramatic sigh.

Sandsnake · 23/03/2018 11:46

Yeah, DS loved a fake cough as a baby! We’d regularly get into fake cough-offs, which would have us both laughing our heads off. Your baby sounds cute!

They learn by copying, I guess he has heard someone with a cough.
