Apologies if you have seen this thread I am just posting here for traffic really.

DD as been showing signs for a while that she might be ready for the potty, so we tried in January but we didn't have much success so now we're trying again however she is still holding her wee & worried about going for a wee in the potty. She holds her wee for hours & you can very clearly see she is desperate to go.
She tells us she needs to go then once on the potty it's like she bottles up & is scared of going. Is this something we should persist with & keep encouraging etc or do we leave it as she might not be ready mentally?

Thanks

Have you tried just using the toilet? Maybe she doesn't like the potty?
We got a peppa pig potty reward chart off eBay. That worked well.

I would also suggest trying the toilet.
Our ds is 2 and a half and we think he is ready for toilet training. We agreed we weren't going to use a potty, it's much easier to go straight on the toilet. We have a toilet seat with a built in child's seat, so all we have to do is pull it down. It worked because though we haven't started trying properly yet, ds has done a wee on the toilet.

If she’s really worried/ anxious and can’t be bribed- try cutting small hole in nappy- sit her on potty, wee into nappy. Gradually (depending on her reaction) make hole bigger.

Read "Oh Crap Its Potty Training" - from Amazon. Has worked for everyone I know including my son xx

Have you tried letting her keep the nappy on whilecshe sits on the potty and wees? If she will do that you can gradually over tine make the nappy more slack until in the end you just lay a nappy in the potty and get her to wed on that. I’d only do this method if shecwont use the toilet though Smile

I found Successful Potty Training to be very good. It’s not a how too but has lots of hints and tips. Your local library will probably have lots of books on potty trying for DD to enjoy.

If it was me, I’d try to put it off for at least a couple of weeks until the weather is warmer. Potty training is so much easier in warm weather Smile

We seem to be making progress, 2 wees in the potty so far this morning. No accidents either. Going to keep at it.

So DD has come along leaps & bounds with weeing her potty, she is now starting to tell me when she needs to go & 9/10 she actually goes. Horaay!
One accident so far thats it!! Fingers crossed she has got the knack of it & there is no going back.

Silly question now, she hasn't been to poo for 2 days & I realise this is a massive step but do you think it will take her a while to be able to do this on the potty? Or any advice to encourage her more.
