Weaning, best long sleeved bibs

LO is 5 months and we’re gearing up for weaning. I know it’s going to be a messy business so was going to invest in some long sleeve bibs. Any recommendations? Also any other weaning bits people have found invaluable? Or i’ll Buy some fairly standard bowls and spoons etc. Thank you!

Ikea. The Velcro goes eventually but we use a clothes peg to keep them on. Get the high chair and plastic plates/bowls/cups while you’re there and job’s a good ‘un.

I got most things from ikea, their long sleeved bibs are really good. Wash well and have lasted DS2 two years.

I have tried loads of bibs, and these are by far and away the best.

Including Velcro in any item that is going to get covered in food is madness imo.

We really like Bibetta long sleeve bibs, and we have just moved onto their bibs without sleeves now DTs are 18 months (and don't want to wear ones with sleeves anymore).
Ikea high chairs

As PPs have said Ikea! And whilst you’re at it get the high chair, bowls, a ton of stuff you don’t need and never intended to buy etc.

IKEA velcro goes quite quickly. Close Pop In are worth every penny. They wash well, amazing designs and ensure the child is well covered.

I found long-sleeves bibs a right faff and never managed to get them off wriggly DD without getting almost as much food on her. In hot weather they always seemed clammy as well. I read a tip on here about cutting down an old adult's shirt and using a clothes peg to secure it - genius! Worked much better and could just chuck in the wash afterwards.

We had some fab ones from Poundland for both dcs.

Love the Ikea ones because they wash well and I even chucked ours in the tumble dryer and it was fine
Also like the mothercare ones, they are thicker so more protection! Also wash well but have to be hung up

Bibetta for sure! Velcro still going strong on dd2 and soaks up water spills too.

Second Dioskouri and Onedaylikethi5. Close Pop In are the only ones we've had last for any length of time.

Found Poundland ones v useless and on all others the Velcro goes. There is no Velcro on Close Pop Ins.

Bamboo plates and bowls are good - they last too and T X Maxx usually have them in. We did baby led weaning so didn't bother with spoons to begin with.

Silly Billyz were the only Ines I found where dd2 couldn't get soup down the neck hole (they have a special crinkly bit) and where said soup was absorbed by the bib before it hit her lap.

You might get not need something quite as bomb proof if you're not going to give a 6mo soup

Mum2mum sleeved wonder bibs are incredibly good. I was given some as a hand me down, passed onto another friend, who the passed on again before they returned to her they are soft and machine washable, absorb loads and last for ages. Seriously one of my best baby buys.

My little one won't wear the long sleeved bibs as he finds it too restrictive and doesn't like how they feel. Just start with one and see how it goes. I don't find it too messy in regular bibs really, he just has a change of clothes after eating. We do blw, we don't use any plates yet he just has food on his high chair tray. We also eat in our carpeted dining room and so far so good, bit of mess to clean up depending what we have had but no major disasters so far (he is 10.5 months now).

I like muslins just tied round the neck or child stripped to nappy then chucked in the bath after tea.

Hippychick bibs are available from ocado, and have toes instead of velcro - work brilliantly.

Our ikea ones have been going for 3 years now. No issues with Velcro.

The baby bjorn ones are very good, they cover everything, are very soft, and will last forever. We used two of them from six months up to not needing a bib, then used them for painting/messy play till about five and they are still in good nick to pass down to another baby. They are quite pricy though.

I have 4 ikea ones which have been in use for nearly 4 years and the velcro is fine - food doesn't get near the velcro?!

I like the tu ones. I wash and tumble. Arms are a thin toweling and front plastic backed. Cheap enough for replacements when they look grubby. And I buy boys and girls versions so there are usually around 4 different ones at a time.
