Anyone else trying to ditch the dummy?

Day 3 of trying with my six month old. Done pretty well during the day through exhaustion and motion I think but haven't managed to get her to sleep at night without using it. She is however sleeping much better when removed as she drops off. Currently at 30 minutes + of trying to remove it as she drops off so not doing very well tonight... not entirely sure I am doing the right thing (or doing it the right way). Any advice, moral support etc welcome!

Getting rid of a dummy at 6 months? Most babies have only just taken it up at this stage. Why do you need to get rid so soon?

I’m not a dummy fan but I agree this is the wrong age to do this. She needs it at this age and is too little to not need it. If you didn’t want to use it you shouldn’t have given it at all. try again about 11/12 months? Just gradually try not to promote it until then.

My DC3 is 18 months and I'm not thinking about weaning him off it anytime soon. When he was around 6-8 months I regretted introducing it because it was always falling out and he couldn't put it back in so I was up all night doing it for him. My other two didn't use them, I wanted DC3 to have something so that he was able to self settle. DC1 only settled with milk from me and I wish I had given her a dummy to try but I was a FTM and was of the opinion that my child didn't need a dummy. My DC2 sucked his fingers from 4 months and it was the best thing ever! It still is and he has just turned three!!

Thanks guys, fairly unanimous in opinion. I am giving it a go because the nights since Christmas have been getting steadily more disrupted as she wakes when it drops out, nearly constantly some nights. She has been sleeping much better the last few nights but I have worried about weaning her off something that does give her comfort. Is it any easier to do at 1 year old? My elder DC still has one as it seemed impossible to take away from him when he was around one as he was so dependant on it. I had thought it might be better to try it earlier this time round.
