Prefolds on big boys?

I've just started to use my local nappy laundering service - now I've got two kids I can't quite cope with the washing...

Anyway, they use prefolds, which are brilliant for my little one who's 6 weeks. But my 2 year old has a bit more trouble with them. Once the front of the nappy's a bit wet, it tends to get weighed down and leave his poor willy rubbing against the plastic wrap.

Any suggestions, prefold users? Or did you all switch to something more shaped by this stage?

BTW the fold I used was just folding the pad in 3. Am experimenting with traditional "boy" fold now...

I had to give up on reusables for my 2 year old. He was so active and he drinks alot so I was changing his nappy every half hour or bulking him up with extra cloths so that he could barely move, or washing several urine sodden pairs of trousers (or shirts) every day. I now use Moltex biodegradeable nappies (can go in an earth composter, have no chemicals gels and are no more expensive than Pampers/Huggies if you buy in bulk) Not for everyone, I know, but it has made the last few months immeasurably easier - next stop toilet training and goodbye to nappies completely (until a new baby arrives, anyway!)

I've always used a mixture of eco-disposables and washables. It's really a question about prefolds specifically. Tho' thanks for the tip re earthworm composter and moltex.

Any takes on the original question?

I have found that pad folded terries don't seemed to cave in at the sides like prefolds. I also think they seem to be a little more absorbant. I had exactly the same problem with my ds as you've got. After a few hours there didn't seem to be any nappy covering his willy! But like I say I don't get the same problem with terries. I use 60cms ones and fold the corners into the middle to make a smaller square, I then fold it into thirds so you have 6 layers in total.
Just realised though that you use a laundry service so this doesn't really help, sorry.
