Your daytime nap routine

Hello,

We're struggling with the daytime nap routine. My baby is 6 weeks old and sleeps perfectly at night but during the day he often gets overtired and then he's impossible to get to sleep.

At the moment I bring his moses basket downstairs and put it in a quiet, dark corner of my living room. We play white noise via an app on my phone. Problem is, DS will only nap after a feed (which he doesn't always need) or if you rock him for hours on end. He will sometimes drift off in his bouncer but will only sleep for maximum 20 mins there. He is a very warm baby so sometimes if I swaddle him he gets too hot (even in this weather!) so I am reluctant to do that.

Any tips? What do you do?

I used to walk my DD for miles.

Or just cuddle to sleep.

@Makingworkwork We also do a lot of walking with the dog and DS always sleeps in the sling but I can only go for an hour maximum, anything more and my episiotomy scar burns like hell. I keep him in the sling while he sleeps at home but often he wakes when we get back due to the temp change.

How are you feeding?

If you're BF, at 6 weeks I'd feed and let him nap on you. Otherwise I'd feed lying down in bed and both nap.

Makingworkwork · 06/03/2018 12:41

Can you put him in the sling and jiggle him up and down in house.

gussyfinknottle · 06/03/2018 12:43

Walk them everywhere. Even in shitty weather. The recent gig wind would have been the only thing that stopped me.

At 6 weeks with rubbish weather. Get yourSelf comfortable on the sofa with netflicks and a travel cup of tea and hold her up with her head on your shoulder and pat her bum or have a cosleep nap.

I used to sit on a yoga ball and bounce with baby in a sling

6 weeks is too early for a routine. Try cuddling to sleep but theyvwill generally fall asleep when they are tired at that age. I take mine upstairs to bed and feed him and then he drops off if he doesn’t fall asleep downstairs. No bad thing to reinforce that bedroom is for sleeps.

My baby didn’t star routinely napping until 4/5 months- before that we just had to let her sleep on our chests or she wouldn’t nap at all- even then sometimes she would go hours and hours without a nap.
