Alfamino reaction

Hi all,
Has anyone experienced a bad reaction in their LO after changing to Alfamino?
We had nutramigen but she actually seems to be reacting worse to this formula!
She has CMPA and we have tried Aptamil Pepti, nutramigen and now Alfamino but her eczema is really bad now, she writhes in pain at bed time and her breath smells like vinegar!
We also have ranitidine but it's not doing much!
It's been 7 months of hell and I am at breaking point 😢

I could be wrong but I believe those formulas still contain milk, albeit in a very broken down form but there are still traces. My son is on neocate which is amino acid based and has no milk in it at all, so it could be you need to push for this instead? I know some Drs are reluctant to prescribe because it’s so expensive but if your DD is reacting still then it could be Neocate is what you need xxx

I agree with Lelly. Is your LO under a Paed?

Mamma2010 · 26/02/2018 12:27

Yeah we have a pead our next appointment is in three months!
I took her the docs and she seems to think it's just her body adjusting to weaning!!! Fingers crossed.

Ok so what have you fed her that would affect her and how often is she having solids? I’d say if she’s screaming, it would be highly unusual for a baby to be in such pain from complementary foods. Windy yes, perhaps even a little constipated but not screaming.

Mamma2010 · 01/03/2018 12:52

We have tried
Avocado and melon, rusk made with her milk! These are the only things that don't cause her pain, we have tried some pouches but she reacts to them all!

I wouldn’t bother with risks, they are just basically sugar and whilst some people do use pouches, they’re not really an ideal First food.

It is very unusual for Weaning to cause such pain though. I’d really push for a milk free formula.

sarahja99 · 01/03/2018 18:42

Alfamino is another amino acid formula like neocate so no milk whatsoever. I think rusks say they may contain milk so they could be causing the eczema flair up. How long has she been on Alfamino? Could it still be a delayed reaction from the previous formulas? ( Both pepti and nutramigen are hydrolysed formulas so do contain some milk protein)

I would go back to the GP and push to be seen by a paed sooner or at least a dietician. My DD didn't settle or tolerate any solids at all until 10 months when she was put on Omeprazole. Are you on the CMPA weaning group on Facebook - lots of good advice on there.

Good luck OP my DD was awful at this age and I remember the utter despair well Flowers and Cake

sarahja99 · 01/03/2018 18:46

If you are already under a paed you could contact their secretary and asked to be seen sooner. I have had to do this a few times and consultant will call me back and advise over the phone and do prescriptions etc.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 01/03/2018 18:51

I hadn’t realised it was an amino acid formula Blush

Just checked the risks and they are definitely a may contain OP.

There also a couple of good sections that might help you on MN, Allergies and weaning Smile
