8m old - sleep/routine HELP

So, my little one is 8 months old this week.

He's generally woken up 2-3 times per night since being four months old (he was once a night before this). So he's never really been a good sleeper! This last week he's up near enough every hour or two hours if we're lucky. I don't for one second think he is hungry but the only thing getting him to sleep is milk - he's guzzle an oz or two and roll over to sleep. It's like a comfort thing. How can I get away from this?

For background he LOVES his food since the second we started weaning

Our routine;
6am - baby wakes for the day
7am - breakfast (porridge)
9:30 - 6oz bottle and an hour nap
11am - 6oz bottle
12:30 - lunch
2pm - 6oz bottle and nap (30mins to an hour).
4pm - 6oz bottle (sometimes he skips this)
5:30 - dinner and some sort of dessert
7pm - bath/bedtime routine, story/cuddles etc
7:30pm - 8oz bottle and bed

Obviously we have playtime and activities/go out throughout the day. He'll also have quick power naps when we are in the car - impossible to keep him awake in a car journey.

HOW CAN I TRAIN TO SELF SOOTHE AND SLEEP LONGER STRETCHES WITHOUT A BOTTLE???

What am I doing wrong here?! 😩😩

Is he almost 9 months by any chance?

LilliesAndRosess · 25/02/2018 18:26

No, he's 8 months old this week coming

Oh ok, I was wondering if it was the 9 month sleep regression. Have yiu got the Winder Weeks App? Perhaps it’s a developmental leap? Have you tried the No Cry Sleep Solution too?

Lozxx · 25/02/2018 18:32

Babies around 8 months go through sleep regression, my boy did this and woke during the night a lot. I hope it will pass for youSmile it has for us luckily. Your routine seems good enough

WhyDoesItAlways · 25/02/2018 18:35

Trying to remember when mine was that age but pretty sure he only had 3-4 bottles a day. Your routine seems like he isn't going long without having food or milk. Perhaps try and gradually get him to eat or drink more at each meal and stretch out the time in between feeds so he gets used to not having food so often. His night waking may just be that he expects food often so wakes for it even though he's not really hungry.

LilliesAndRosess · 25/02/2018 19:11

But I was led to believe you shouldn't drop any milk feeds for food?

Also, I'm unsure what the no cry sleep solution is so I'll have a read up!

Thanks for the replies :)

You must be tired but I don’t think you are doing anything wrong. This is normal, however you feed your baby.

Ghostlyfeet · 26/02/2018 09:00

The afternoon nap? Are you waking him from it or does he wake naturally?

TittyGolightly · 26/02/2018 09:02

8 month sleep regression. It’s the “walking” download to their brains.

Nothing to do but ride it out. And don’t drop feeds - the brain needs the calories.

LilliesAndRosess · 26/02/2018 09:28

He wakes himself from his naps. The only time I wake him is if he's having a particularly long one as I try to have him awake before 4pm latest.

I was wondering if it's possibly because he relies on milk for his naps, maybe he was relying on milk during the night to soothe back to sleep.

I'm sure he's not hungry at night as last night I replaced milk with water and he ended up doing a four hour stretch of sleep once he realised he wasn't getting milk (i gave him milk at 4am as of course he was hungry at this point).

He's started crawling the last few days so I think it's partly as he so full of beans and raring to go all of the time!

Thank you for your reassuring words. Any suggestions welcome!

My daughter is also 8 months this week & she has been a pain in the butt with sleeping too. Like your LO, she's never been a particularly 'good' sleeper but we've definitely had a few worse nights recently. Honestly I don't think you're doing anything wrong, my daughter has had a few phases like this over the months & after a few days has gone back to her normal. If it goes on more than a week I'd maybe be concerned something is causing it but other than that I'd try & ride it out. (Easy to say when you're a waking zombie I know) Wink good luck!

WhyDoesItAlways · 26/02/2018 17:33

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest reducing calorie intake just suggesting trying to give bigger feeds less often.

I also wonder if they suffer with a bit of muscle aches when they start crawling as us adults do when we use muscles we haven't used in a while which may disturb them at night.

LilliesAndRosess · 27/02/2018 07:37

We did well last night!

11:30
2am
4am
