Wondered if anyone had any advice. My DS1 is just about 3, and has been dry in the day for nearly a year. Night times he still wears a nappy, and almost every morning, does a poo in the nappy before he gets up. Often leaks onto the sheets and pillow (lots of dettox and washing...!).

I tried saying to him that when he wakes and needs a poo, he can call me and I'll go to the toilet with him, he agreed that was a good idea, then did a poo in the nappy the next day, and said "maybe tomorrow mummy"! Cue tomorrow, same thing. If we discuss not wearing the nappy at night he gets upset, as he worries about getting poo on the sheets! He can't go to the loo by himself as he can't open his door - the handle is really high (30s house), and I don't want to start leaving the door open (cats will get in).

Should I just leave it, when do I need to worry about him being trained at night?

I've tried altering when he has fruit/protein etc. in the day and it makes no difference - his time of day to poo is just first thing in the morning!

Any pearls of wisdom welcome...

put a potty in his room?

thanks, already got one there, which he ignores... - I did wonder about talking about that, but then the smell....!!!

It's weird, as he potty trained himself during the day no hassle whatsoever, and is totally happy doing a poo if needed in the daytime on the toilet. It's just this one regular one...

well, maybe you should take the plunge and just take the nappy off. perhaps at the moment it's just "easy" for him to do it in the nappy, he knows it's safe, and he doesn't have to get out of his warm bed.
plus, if it's tending to leak anyway it won't make much difference.
worth a go. he might just get up and use the potty if he knows he doesn't have the nappy on
